Collaboration with the Arxiu de la Paraula

One of the main interests of the Museu de la Paraula‒Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana is to become a database of all oral records that are scattered throughout the Valencian territory in order to guarantee their conservation. With this in mind, the Museu Valencià d'Etnologia invites all persons and groups with this type of information CAMBKO EOJO to inform the museum. If you have recorded interviews or know of people or groups with such material, please contact us.

Likewise, if you have material from personal research and you don't know what to do with it, you can also get in touch with us.

In the same way, if you have testimonials recording family or community memories and you wish to have them preserved, even though you may not necessarily want them to be the subject of research, we can also collaborate.

You can collaborate with the Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana in the following ways:

- Handing over and/or donating testimonials to the Museu de la Paraula‒Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana, for their safekeeping and custody.

- Applying for an internship at the Museu Valencià d'Etnologia.

- Through the research grant programmes announced by the Museu Valencià d'Etnologia.

For our part, we can collaborate with you by advising and helping you in drafting of research projects or interviews aimed at the recovery of intangible heritage.

The Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana‒Museu de la Paraula is a research project of the Museu Valencià d'Etnologia, belonging to the Diputación de Valencia.

Its main objective is the creation of a biographical database that compiles, conserves, researches and disseminates oral testimonies of the socio-cultural reality of the Valencian men and women who were protagonists of the 20th century. The Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana‒Museu de la Paraula feeds off the places remembered. Through interviews with people over 75 years of age, folk wisdom, daily life, individuals, groups and culture are intertwined with memories and, thanks to this, provide the visitor with the most significant cultural heritage and social practices of the last century.

The project is an archive of biographical data that goes beyond simple collection. In the Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana‒Museu de la Paraula, we try not to treat subjects simply as individuals or dilute their discourse as mere opinions, since even though people's lives are not  History, they are life stories worth taking into consideration. What has been done, how it has been done and why it has been done are the great questions raised by the Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana‒Museu de la Paraula. This life experience is the very source of the project. Life experiences and memories that may be of common interest are the focal point of this archive. Every life is worth telling, because every person is a source of knowledge and experience. This is the certainty that guides our work.

We treasure about 350 life stories. We began this fieldwork in 2002 and published it online in 2010. The interviews are recorded in audio-visual format, transcribed, indexed and available on the Internet. The stories cover the life-cycle of the people interviewed. Some of them are part of specific projects we have been working on at the Museu Valencià d'Etnologia over the years.

The Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana‒Museu de la Paraula brings together four major areas of work that have traditionally existed in parallel: life stories, museology, intangible heritage and new technologies. Thus, we have understood life stories (oral memories) as intangible heritage, giving prominence to people, their knowledge, expressions and skills. We have brought them to light at a museum of ethnology, and thanks to new technologies, can now show them to the world.

The Arxiu de la Memòria Oral Valenciana‒Museu de la Paraula has a collaboration agreement with the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (AVL).
